ARCHYTAS – European Defence Fund Project

Brightelligence is a consortium partner in ARCHYTAS, a major European Defence Fund (EDF) research project focused on next-generation hardware architectures for dependable and energy-efficient AI systems in defence applications. The project reflects the type of advanced European initiative in which deep hardware expertise, high-performance system thinking, and long-term technological ambition come together.

For Brightelligence, participation in ARCHYTAS is a natural extension of our involvement in technically demanding programmes at the intersection of advanced computing, AI-oriented hardware, and system-level innovation. It places us within an international effort focused on shaping future architectures for strategically important applications.

What ARCHYTAS Is About

ARCHYTAS is dedicated to the exploration of non-conventional AI accelerators for defence use cases. Its objective is to investigate how emerging hardware concepts can improve the efficiency, performance, and practical deployability of AI systems in environments where reliability, speed, and energy awareness all matter.

The project focuses on advanced architectural directions such as optoelectronic acceleratorsprocessing-in-memory, and neuromorphic computing. These are not incremental improvements to established platforms, but part of a broader search for new computing approaches capable of supporting the next generation of intelligent systems more effectively than traditional architectures alone.

Scale and Programme Context

ARCHYTAS was selected under the EDF 2023 call in the area of digital transformation and dedicated hardware architectures for energy-efficient AI. It is a 36-month project with an EU contribution of €19,976,637.23, which places it among the significant European research programmes focused on advanced defence-related digital technologies.

The scale of the programme is important. ARCHYTAS is not a narrow technical study centred on one isolated concept. It is a substantial European collaborative effort aimed at advancing the foundations of future AI hardware through coordinated work across architecture, enabling technologies, system-level considerations, and application-oriented research.

International Collaboration

ARCHYTAS brings together 22 partners from 11 countries in a consortium coordinated by IVECO Defence Vehicles. The partnership includes defence-sector organizations, semiconductor and deep-tech companies, universities, and research institutions across Europe. Brightelligence is proud to be part of this international consortium and to contribute as a Polish partner within a project of this scale and significance.

This kind of consortium matters because ambitious hardware innovation increasingly depends on collaboration across disciplines and across national ecosystems. ARCHYTAS creates exactly that environment: one in which advanced architecture research, technology development, and practical system thinking can be combined at a European level.

Technology Direction

The public scope of ARCHYTAS shows the level of innovation behind the programme. The project addresses a broad and forward-looking hardware landscape that includes emerging accelerator concepts, memory-centric computing approaches, and new architectural paths beyond conventional computing models.

From a strategic perspective, this is what makes ARCHYTAS especially valuable. It is focused not simply on using AI more widely, but on enabling AI through better underlying hardware. That means addressing the problem at its foundation: how to build computing platforms that are more efficient, more dependable, and more suitable for demanding real-world deployment.

Why It Matters to Brightelligence

For Brightelligence, ARCHYTAS is a strong example of the level at which we operate. We are involved in projects where hardware architecture is not treated as a supporting detail, but as a central part of innovation. Participation in this programme reflects our presence in advanced European R&D environments where technical depth, systems thinking, and future-oriented engineering all matter.

It also reinforces our position as a company working on challenges that go beyond standard implementation work. ARCHYTAS belongs to the category of projects where real value comes from understanding architecture, performance, integration, and long-term technological direction at the same time.

What It Says About Our Experience

ARCHYTAS shows that Brightelligence is active in major European programmes related to advanced computing architecturesAI hardware, and high-performance system design. For clients, partners, and stakeholders, this is an important signal. It demonstrates that our experience is not limited to commercial engineering delivery alone, but also extends to collaborative innovation programmes shaping the future of intelligent hardware systems in Europe.

This kind of participation strengthens the foundation on which we build our broader engineering work. It reflects exposure to ambitious technical environments, close cooperation with leading European partners, and continued involvement in projects where the stakes, the complexity, and the technological ambition are all high.

Project Significance

ARCHYTAS is an important part of Brightelligence’s EU project portfolio because it aligns directly with the technological areas in which we create value: advanced hardware design, computing acceleration, and complex system engineering. It stands as a clear example of our engagement in programmes that are both technically demanding and strategically relevant.

In that sense, ARCHYTAS is more than a project name on a list. It is evidence of Brightelligence’s role in the broader European innovation landscape and of our ability to contribute to initiatives focused on the next generation of efficient, dependable, and high-impact computing systems.
